A Touch of Spring: My Forsythia-Inspired Swap Card

One of my favorite things about being part of a stamping community is swapping cards! My team recently did a swap, and it was so much fun to see everyone’s creativity come to life. Our long-distance team members mailed in their swaps, while the local stampers and I got together to trade them in person. There’s something so inspiring about seeing the different styles, techniques, and ideas everyone brings to the table!

For my swap card, I designed a bright and cheerful spring card using the Delightful Wishes bundle and Floral Delight Designer Series Paper. I wanted to capture the beauty of forsythia blooms, which always remind me of home. I grew up with a forsythia bush in my backyard, and in my current house, I loved my neighbor’s forsythia for years—until they cut it down! I’m seriously considering planting one of my own because nothing says "spring is here" quite like those
yellow blossoms.

Swapping cards is such a great way to get fresh inspiration, connect with other stampers, and add some gorgeous new designs to your collection. Have you ever participated in a card swap? I’d love to hear about your experience!

The Power of Handmade Cards: A Simple Gesture with a Big Impact!

In a world of digital messages, nothing beats the joy of receiving a handmade card. This past week, I was reminded just how powerful this small act can be when I received FOUR beautiful handmade cards!

✨ One had a little goof—opening at the bottom which gave me an extra smile!
✨ Another was a Valentine’s card that got lost in the mail and arrived late, but still so much fun to open!
✨ The other two were fun, unexpected surprises that made my day.

Handmade cards don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful—in fact, those little imperfections are part of their charm. They are tangible reminders that someone took the time to create something just for you. Thanks, Meg, Amy and Jim for the happy mail!

If you love crafting, why not send out a card this week? A thank-you, a “just because,” or a little encouragement—it might be exactly what someone needs.

Have you received or sent a handmade card recently?

Flowers and More Everything Card

I just love this Flowers and More Designer Series Paper.  And this red sheet is my FAVORITE!  I cut a 1 1/2 inch strip off the top edge and added another fun strip of paper down the back side.  I just had to be sure not to stick my 3/4 inch strip and greeting (from Charming Sentiments) all the way down on the right!

Dainty Flowers Hello There

This Dainty Flowers Designer Series Paper is so perfect for a quick and simple card.  I stamped the greeting  from the Eden's Garden stamp set and finished it off with the  Happy Labels Pick a Punch and a retired white ribbon.

Scary Cute Halloween Cards

The Scary Cute bundle makes such cute cards.  Because I do take and make to go kits, I look for sets that have die cutting options.  So the purple card was made with no stamping but the greeting.  The orange card used blending brushes, die cutting, the Stamparatus and stamping.  Such a fun set!!

October Fall and Halloween Stamp-a-Stack Cards

I had a fun Friday night and Saturday morning of stamping!  A couple of new stampers joined us Friday which is always fun.  And we had a good group Saturday and even went out to lunch afterwards!

I like to ask what everyone’s favorite card was at the end of class.  My favorite answer is “I can’t decide”, but it sometimes surprises me which cards they choose.  This month it was a fairly even split.

This Halloween card might be my favorite.  We used blending brushes with Pumpkin Pie and Gorgeous Grape ink to make the spooky background.  And I just love the extra touch the bats add.

And this one was my fall card/Thanksgiving card.  I pulled this long greeting from a old set of wooden stamps I have saved.  Many people went with Thanksgiving, but it also made a nice sympathy card.

In October I usually do a Halloween card and two fallish cards that can be made into Thanksgiving or all occasion cards. A lot of stampers made this one into birthday, thinking of you and sympathy.

Sending Smiles Birthday Card

I spent my afternoon making a swap card.  It's one of the fun perks of being a demo.  We get to preorder from new catalogs, and then we swap with other demonstrators.  We make a set number and send them off to the swap hostess, and she swaps them out and sends us back that same number of different cards made by demonstrator friends.  It's a great way to get ideas or to see new product being used!  We make full cards so sometimes I have used one to send to one of my stampers who has seen and/or made all of my ideas already.

I used the new Sending Smiles stamp set and dies to make this cheerful card, and I love, love, love the new In Colors, Parakeet Party and Orchid Oasis together.

Springy Cards for a Snowy Day

Here in central Illinois, we are have another day of snow.  I designed cards for this weekend’s stamp-a-stack knowing this weather was coming. It looks like I’m going to need to reschedule and will need another card design.  I’m afraid the valentine card will be too late when we are able to stamp next weekend.  Maybe I can put together a slightly modified to go kit for valentine cards!

These other two cards definitely have us thinking springy thoughts!

My friend Mary McCormick designed this bird card for a group swap. I made a few changes, but this card was definitely inspired by Mary‘s creation. I love that little pop of Pool Party ink on the flowers.

Today's Plan...

I loved this set the first time I flipped through the catalog, and I was so glad to see it is again in the annual catalog.  I hadn't really done much with it last year and knew it was perfect for a class now that we can get together again in person.  I hope my stampers enjoy it as much I do!
